The Department of Interior and Environmental Design explores the relationships between human beings and the living environment from the human ecological perspective. The programs of the department are focused on understanding how the planning, design and management of the living environments are related to individuals, groups, organizations and communities on the housing and interior design fields as well as understanding and practice of space planning and design. The courses of the program are composed of design methodology, social and cultural study, behavioral study, and technical knowledge and skills of design. The pedagogical aim is to produce experts who are able to think scientifically and creatively while coping with various issues in the living environment with a vision of future interior and environmental design.
Graduates can work as designers in the interior and environmental design fields, such as interior design firms, architectural firms, the architecture and interior design-related departments of large enterprises, the furniture industry and showrooms, the housing management industry, and housing development companies. They can also work in the mass communication field, such as for architectural, interior, and housing magazines, newspapers, and in the research and educational field as teachers or researchers.
